Like the BeeGee's Song. Only colder. We have had two days of snow and I'm not entirely sure it is done yet. It snows at night, so "Surprise!" You got SNOW! It causes trouble for our little outdoor adventures.

IS this deep enough for you? |
We took yesterday off because of the REALLY deep snow ( about 6-8 inches) and Cheryl wanted to rest the leg an additional day. Most of the roads still had slop on them, as well as the sidewalks. Iowa Drivers still did not get the Memo on winter driving, but sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
Remember. this is Iowa! |
Have these drivers never seen snow before? |
Last night, an additional two to three inches was added, but I think the snow plows were able to keep up with it.
They drive like crazy people on these roads. |
We were able to travel to our running spot relatively easily. They were still in the process of clearing the sidewalks as we were running/biking on them.
University keeping up with the snow. |
With the limited places to run, and the limiting injury, Cheryl has greatly lowered the bar on "successful" training run. Now, simply running 2 miles without pain or snowshoes is a victory!
Cheryl accepts the challenge |
Clear running is limited. |
As for me, the bike does not like this type of snow very much. I see other guys with those fat tire bikes having a wonderful time in it, but my humble mountain bike still struggles. It is really not made for the snow, but at least it is capable in a limited way.
A success! No pain for two miles! |
About the only way to enjoy the snow. |
Other than that, we have adopted the ways of the Brown Bear. Namely: Hibernation. There is very little to do outside other than our usual regiment of running and biking. Skiing in Iowa is an expensive and limited affair... But that is about the only other way to enjoy physical exercise here now. (And by Skiing, I mean Cross country. I see no hills large enough to consider downhill.) I'll have to look back in the blog to see if we have had this much snow before... well since 2010. Normally, the snow comes and is gone a reduced within a few days.
I like this way the best. |
So that is pretty much all for now. Iowa is kinda boring in the winter.... aside from the snow. And the challenge is not dealing with the snow as much as dealing with the cabin fever that afflicts Cheryl and the Cat. (I, however, can handle boredom just fine..)
