Ready to Brave another day? |
What is there to say about being "off" for a day. Yesterday, it was me. I was cold, bitter, and irritable about the wind, the cold, and seemingly everything else in life. But I got better the moment we got out of the wind. Funny how that is.

Windy chop on the water. |
Today it was Cheryl's turn. She wanted to run 15 miles today. However, despite the temps being 15 degrees warmer, that wind still was in our face and making things annoying. We ended up running only 7. Cheryl was quite disappointed about that. But things got better the moment we got out of that wind.... Funny how that is.

Were they always this big? |
|
And taxes... Did I mention taxes? |
Of course there are also a number of things on our minds that could be distracting us from being better people. Obesity, Crushing Poverty, Unemployment, Taxes, Lost Dreams, Missing Goals, Self Disappointment, Taxes, Bad Weather, Flooding, Hunger, and inevitable possibility that we will some day be hit by a giant asteroid.... Oh! And did I mention taxes? Add all of that up and you may see why we only were able to run 7 miles today.
|
If only they were not so expensive... |
I guess we could start taking drugs. I hear they work... sometimes. Then again, running is supposed to realease the Dopamine that we need to feel happy. But if we are too depressed to run, then what are the healthy, organic alternatives?

Cheryl stops to watch the Coots. |
They say Americans are either anxious or drugged. We solidly fit in the first category. But every time I see a guy holding a sign for a handout, I'm reminded that drugs are not the answer. Plus they are expensive... and I hate spending money. It probably seems odd that my frugality keeps me sober.

Hooded Mergansers and Coots. |
|
Geese on he path. |
Ah well, there is always tomorrow and the opportunity to run again... in the
rain this time. Rain might be better than wind....
maybe. We shall see just how much on the misery scale when we put them side by side.

If we could only be more like the birds... |
In the mean time, I have been folding and Cheryl has been making necklaces. That helps pass the time and keeps us occupied.
At least there were a few things to distract us from our distractions. Geese, Hooded Mergansers, and coots were all on the lake today. The Pelicans have also arrived and usually greet us when we first start out in the morning. The Eagles are mostly gone, but the turkey vultures are now here in force. They are the coolest bird! Fun fact: Turkey Vultures have a stomach acid so powerful, they can eat anthrax and not only survive, they thrive! Vultures are "dead-end vectors" for pathogens. Their urine is also as caustic as their digestive system. They pee on their legs to cool off AND kill any pathogens that might think about hitching a ride. It also neutralizes any left over bacteria on a diseased carcass. Thus... Killing the baddies so they don't spread. Hooray for Vultures!
And I just thought they were having fun riding the wind currents.
