Yesterday's Long Run |
We ran the long run yesterday, in prep for the "possible" bad weather of today. I'm glad we did.
|
Cheryl completes it! Thumbs up! |
With only a small section of sidewalk available to us, Cheryl and I have been running the "hills" in Coralville. For some reason, the sidewalk going up and down the hilly section is the only part where the city plows. The flatter woodland trail we usually run on has been covered in snow and ice for the last several weeks.
But the really BAD weather hit today... Freezing Rain! Running the hills has causes Cheryl's "Runner's Knee" to flair up again... and she was thinking about taking the day off anyway. But the freezing rain is a game changer.

Subster Covered in Ice! |
|
And so are the Roads! |
Subie was covered in Ice this morning. However, the roads were not too bad. We braved a trip o Iowa City for some "Essential Goods" from Trader Joe... and a Happy Meal from Burger King. Totally worth the 26 miles trek on icy roads!
|
Is it too dangerous for a Trader Joe Visit? I Think NOT! |
The weather turned a little worse on the way home...but we are here now... safe and sound and warm. Sipping Tea and reading books... Or in my case: Writing a blog posting.
|
If only the snow had melted before the cold hit again... |
I thought the warmer weather we had would melt the path enough to actually be able to run in the flat section. However, it simply melted and then re-froze o a lumpy, slippery, hard, surface that will twist an ankle, snap a bike spoke. Looks like we will not be able to run there for a while.
Hope everyone who is out there is staying safe on this frozen rainy day. Slippery roads are dangerous! And nothing beats staying home and sipping warm beverage. (Tea, coffee, or Chicken soup! Yumm!)
