A Small Gathering of Mushrooms

Today we went out looking for the Smooth Chanterelle.  It has been a few days since our last rain and we figured we might have a chance at finding a few in our old spot. Especially since other Bloggers (i.e.  Mulewings) have been finding them in a more northern latitude.

Success!  Sure it was not a huge cluster as  previous years, but it was enough to make my day.  We also found several field boletes and Oyster mushrooms.

Some look like brains.. Or cauliflower.

Enough to fill the dehydrator with a few left out for a second run.

Back in the fishing days,  Dad would say" At least we did not get skunked!"  or. "Enough to stink up a frying pan. "   It was always a good day fishing if we managed to bring something home.  Good memories. The bright side of bringing a smaller number of fish was that we did not have to spend several hours cleaning them in the dark when we finally got home ( it was always dark after we got back from fishing.)

Add in a few Oysters and Boletes.

And so,  bringing more than a handful of mixed mushrooms home will make my Monday a little brighter. And it does not overload the dehydrator as the King Boletes did this Spring.  Hope everyone had a great Labor day today.  Cheryl and I accomplished a lot of little things, but I could not chalk today.  Ah well,  can't be successful everywhere.   Thanks for stopping in.

Nice finds! The ones I found were so small but really bright colored.
My Labor Day was filled with cleaning the flower garden beds and moving hostas that were crowding out the area.

Sounds like your day was a success!
