Greetings From NewBo!

Cheryl ran the Newbo Half Marathon today.   She did great.  Finished!  Got a Medal that was made out of clay.   And now we are home!  Hooray!

Want the details? I figured.

Newbo stands for "New Bohemian."   I think.  It is the Czech area of Cedar Rapids.   There is Czech food and buildings and stuff....  I think. If I had to guess, I would think that the Czech people are all artist, because there are plenty of artsy things there.  But I digress...

It was much darker than this
Packet pickup

We got up at an insane 4 A.M.  and headed to Cedar Rapids to pick up Cheryl's packet and shirt.   It was a cool 57 degrees and Cheryl never managed to warm up the entire morning,  choosing to burn me out with the heater in the car.  I had the forethought to bring a Jacket.  But in the end, it didn't matter so much as the temps warmed up and Cheryl eventually started running.  ( And running makes you hot!)

At the start line.

The course was an out and back kind, so I had to wait for her at the start/finish line.  The directer said there was mud on the trail. so Cheryl prepared with her trail shoes.  Her heavy, grippy, waterproof trail shoes.  ( Did I mention they are heavy?)  As a result,  Cheryl did not perform her best, clocking in a 1hour, 47 minute half-er.  She was 10th in her age group but 17th female! ( so... LOTS of the women ahead of her were between the ages of 40-50!  Nice.) It's ok though, as she won a watermelon last race.  No need to stock the fridge with another trophy.

Big Finish!

Hand made Clay Medal!

The after-party provided beer, pastries and Czech foods.  An egg and sausage wrapped in some type of  torte or potsticker thingy.   It was good!  The pastries were fresh! ( a soft bready thing with a dollop of blueberry sauce in the middle)  of And the Beer was from  LionsGate,  a local brewery.   (Great Beer!)

We checked out the Newbo Market, but many of the vendors were not there.  Mostly food inside, but there is potential that we might want to see if we can get our soap in there.

Fixed the Cow Chalk Mural.

Home now.... I fixed the Cow mural as the rain for a couple days ago did a number on it.   I felt there was enough there to salvage, but next time it rains, I will let it happen naturally.

A Day for Grillin' and Chillin'.

No plans for tomorrow.  Labor day is meant for grillin', and we don't have a BBQ. But I'm sure we will figure something out.  There is a slim possibility we might get the Subie ahead of schedule.  Finger's crossed.

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend this weekend.  The weather here has certainly improved.   Hopefully, we can dodge a hot "Iowa Indian Summer" this year. And maybe go out looking for Some Mushrooms.   We shall see.   Thanks for stopping in.

Great race!
We have a tiny grill I purchased at Wally world. I get one each fall for about $5 as they are clearing their inventory. We set it on a crate with a wooden top and it works great. They wear out and I'll replace it again with another one this fall!

We love our stuff grilled and I even grill in the winter.
Have a wonderful day.
