Wet And Rainy Bike Ride Before The Quad Cities Marathon. (Half)

Cheryl can hardly contain her
excitement.
Kinda Rainy today.
Tomorrow is the Big Day.... Kinda.   Cheryl is running the Quad Cities Marathon (Half) and they are predicting a very wet experience.  I had my doubts yesterday, with the heat and sunshine.  But now, it has been raining since early this morning and has not let up for longer than 20 minutes!   And apparently, it is meant to continue until 5 PM tomorrow.

A little rain never hurt Cheryl...
much.
Reports say it is going to last until
after the race is over tomorrow.
So what does this mean for Cheryl?   Well,  running in the rain presents both good and bad things.   The advantage is that she can remain cold ( and clammy...) for the entire race.   Especially since the temps are going to hover in the 70's I guess.  The disadvantage is that she has to run completely wet ( and clammy...) for the entire race.   Similar to sweating,  any dampness on your skin can cause rubbing and chaffing and general, miserable, uncomfortable-ness.   So we shall see how things go.

Is it ever a green level?

Packet Pickup.
The race was predicting a yellow condition.   (I believe all marathons are yellow conditions... just so no one gets to cocky.)   But the race route is familiar and we have run this marathon ( half) before,  so I'm hoping for very few surprises.

Shirt Pickup.
Sticker Pickup?   Uh, no.
I doubt I will be the "super special racing fuel dispenser" on this one. (Diet Coke with ice...) Cheryl said that it only slows her down when she only runs a marathon ( half).  I will only be required for that task when she runs 20 miles or further.
Time to ride Bikes.
Into the rain!
So,  Other than that,   we wanted to fit in a bit of exercise before the big event.   So, rather than risk any fatigue running,  we chose to bike.

Into the flooded park.
Down the wet trails/roads.
I have to admit, I had my doubts whether the weather would allow it.  (Ah, Alliteration twixt with a tongue twister...  Pure Poetry.)  But we managed to pull it off and enjoy a 7 mile ride through the formerly flooded park.  By the way,  there was a Renaissance fair there today.   Talk about having a great time in the rain.... I be those guys were die hards for that event.
Mushrooms.

Pink Gills.

Blue Heron.

Chasing the seagulls.
The rain picks up.
A few mushrooms and wildlife shots.   Nothing special in the heavy rain though.   We were hoping to find a Chicken Of The Woods on one of the trees,  But alas,  we found nothing.

Mushroom Medley.
Golden Oyster Mushrooms!

Speaking of Mushrooms.   Yesterday was our last day for the Pearson Project.  To celebrate,  we peeked into the woods before heading home.   We were rewarded with a generous fruiting of Golden Oyster Mushrooms.  Also,  a few Field Boletes popped up in our yard and  around the neighborhood.   I was able to have my favorite Mushroom Medly of Chanterelles, Oysters, and Boletes all mixed together in an omelette.  Delicious!

Looks like a Wet and Wild Adventure.
The whole things starts at 7 A.M.
So now,  Rest.   Make some Icecream...  and prep for the 3 A.M. rise and shine to drive though the rain so we can find a good place to park.  The race starts at 7 A.M. and the temps are reported to be in the low 70's even then.    Cheryl is hoping this will be a good training run for what she has planned for the fall.   I'm hoping not to catch hypothermia, or a cold....  and perhaps capture a few good pictures that do not turn out blurry.   Wish me luck!

Oh,  And I guess that goes for Cheryl too.  ( But she doesn't need it because she prepares for  these things...)  Thanks for stopping in.
