Cheryl and Ethan Have A Snow Day!

Just when we thought
we were too old for this.
Cheryl wants to run!
What are we?  Grade schoolers!   But that is how it seems to be.   There are many similarities...  We love to have Fun!   Love cutsie things.  Play outside all the time.   Have NO responsibility...  ( Because adults always seem so angry...) And Finally we have a job that kicks us out if the snow falls a little too much.   How great is that!

So... with one day left in the Pearson Project,   We had a winter storm warning and they decided to give us the day off so we can come in on Wednesday.  It mattered not, because the project was most likely going to end in a day anyway...  So instead of finishing on a Tuesday, we push it back a day.   6 one way, a half dozen the other.

Cautious driving.

So what do you do on your snow day?   Why, Run! ( And bike) of course.   Sure the snow was deep and slushy.   But the plows had been working on it and I drive a Subaru!  Why not have a little fun.

I should point out that sleeping in was GREAT!  And it allowed us to give the snow plows a little time to do their job.   If we had gotten up at 6 A.M. I'm sure the snow would have been much worse.    (So calling off work was probably a good thing.)

New parking spot.
Cheryl was not very happy about the
changes.
Cheryl still was concerned about the quality of the sidewalks.   She still has nightmares about falling on that ice.   But today the snow was just melty enough to provide  pretty good traction.   The city folks were a little late in plowing the rest of the sidewalk, so we have to find a closer parking spot.   They did eventually plow everything... after we had finished.

But at least the trail was clear  here.
Driving back home was fun.
The bad thing is the wind here.   The "blowing and drifting snow" is a problem when you are out in the country like we are.  There were places where  you could see the concrete and then a large swath where the snow was drifting over the road.   It also made for poor visibility.
Blowing snow...Blowing and drifting
snow.
White knuckle driving?  Not in a Subaru!

Speaking of "cautious Drivers"   The Iowans are not very familiar with snow.  I guess I take snow and drifts and traction for granted growing up in the snow belt.   Even so, Iowa has had bad snow days before since we moved here.   But many of the people seem "overly scared" of the possibility of sliding in the ditch.

Last night's Commute home.
AARGGG!
Last night, after work, we were behind folks driving 15 miles per hour!   (And the roads were PLOWED!)   I had to break my rule and actually PASS them  on snowy roads.    I finished our 2 HOUR commute traveling 35-45MPH the rest of the way and left that long train of cars behind me. (15 miles per hour?  Really!)  I know, I know.... People have crappy cars.   People have Crappy tires.   Some people are old or inexperineced.   But we were ready to be home and did not like being in the middle of a long train of Brake Lights in the dark!

Hopefully the weather will clear up and the roads will remain clear.   One more day of Work and then we can get back to our normal Sloth-ful acivities.   And possibly get back to running.    Hope everyone is staying warm and safe.  And avoid getting behind that person who has no confidence in their car, their tires, or their driving abilities.... They are very frustrating to share the road with.
