June Berries, Farmer's Markets, And Softball Chalk.

A run down of the last four days.  Nothing extremely exciting has really happened that I would deem "Blog Worthy".  So.... no blog entries in that time.  However, eventually I feel I Have to blog about Something... Or else I will lose my memories in my old age when I look back and re-read this stuff.  So.. Here's the skinny:

June Berries!  We apparently picked the first batch too soon, as they have since darkened and become far more sweet!  They now taste exactly like a smaller version of the Blueberry.  Heck!  They even look like Blueberries up close.  We picked a small bucket and could not help but notice that the trees have been picked over by "others" as well.  Still, there were enough berries for us to satisfy our harvesting urges.

Farmer's market was on par to be better than last week... and then it began to rain and thunder half way through.  People got scared and many vendors, who did not have tents set up, decided to call it quits.   They packed up after only 45 minutes!  And many of the crowd seemed to join them.   The funny thing is that the rain lasted all of 5 minutes and barely dampened the sidewalk.  We had been selling steady right up to that point, but after that,  nothing.  Small note:  Cheryl's Fudge was a hit! Along with the Carmel Popcorn.

Today was the Kalona Days  in Kalona.  They had a 5K run before the Farmer's market and we got to share the road with a bunch of sweaty runners.   Cheryl's Kind of crowd.

We set up the tent and tried to keep things simple this time. We managed to sell 20 bars of soap and a few of her designer "guest soap", so it was a bit more successful than last time.  I also introduced some Bubble making mix to the offerings.   Out of 12 jars of goo, we managed to sell 7!  So that was kind of successful.

Behind the scenes note:  It took me 4 days to get the recipe for the bubble goo just right.   I also had to make the wands for the people so they could make bigger bubbles.  ( included with the jar of goo.) I possibly wasted 3 gallons of goo trying to get it to work.  The problem:  Dawn Dish soap is a MUST!  The "off brand" of blue dish-washing detergent does not make the water surface tension break the same way.  So... Mistakes were made, but eventually bubbles were created.

It rained again last night.  I went to the park and it looks like several of the murals have faded with the rain.  Then again, A few of them are holding strong!  I managed to draw these ones by the softball diamond a few days ago before the heat wave hit.  Currently, the rain ushered in high humidity and sunshine.  We are hoping the heat and humidity move on and cooler weather joins us for next week, as Cheryl's Parents are coming to visit us.  ( They always manage to visit Iowa during a HEAT wave.) Maybe things will be different this time.  We shall see.

Hope everyone is staying nice and cool today.   A tall glass of Kool-Aid or Lemonade on the front porch sounds like Summertime at its best.   Thanks for stopping in.

I do love June berries, they are delicious!
Sounds like things went well at the market. Too bad folks packed up and left. Bubble goo! Who knew you could make your own soap stuff?
Do you have an area you can pick black berries?

Staying cool...yep!
