Thursday catch up carving. I didn't know that could kill you!

Woohoo! Got all my seats carved up and I'm cleared up for the weekend! Hopefully, the stores will restock their shelves once again. It has been raining here for the past three days, but today has been especially drizzly. The small pond outside is overflowing the the small creek that is usually dry during the summer is totally raging. April is turning out to be quite the downpour. In other news: I heard that eating grilled food can kill you. Yes! "research" suggests that eating grilled meat "MAY" or MAY NOT" kill you ( increase your risk of cancer, pancreatic I think) Now who in their right mind would even see this research be fit to publish? Just in time for Backyard BBQ season! Coming from a Science/ Biology background myself, I can only guess that this study must be riddled with flaws. If something is not DEFINITE than it should not be published. But I decided to have a little fun with it. So I want to add to my blog: THINGS THAT WILL KILL YOU section. First up! Water. Breathing too much water will kill you. It's a scientific fact! Avoid breathing water at all costs. To be safe, plug in a dehumidifier. Here is your safety briefing for the week. Oh! I didn't get a chance to make the dragonfly nymph yet. Perhaps later.

Health benefits of toilet seats

Think All toilet seats are disgusting incubators for germs and bacteria? Do you use one of those little paper covers to "protect yourself" from all the unknown diseases that are thought to be on seats? Well think again! Your seat doesn't really need protecting. All those paper covers do is mentally separate your backside from the countless bums that have occupied the same space. Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, let's listen to a few medical resources:
"To my knowledge, no one has ever acquired an STD on the toilet seat -- unless they were having sex on the toilet seat!" according to Dr. Abigail Salyers, president of the American Society for Microbiology, quoted on WebMD. But wait...there's more!
As Columbia University's Health Promotion Program sums up: "Because toilet seats are not major culprits in spreading disease, paper or plastic seat covers offer little more than peace of mind." In fact, you have more to fear from bathroom door handles and faucets than from commodes.
And while we're on the topic, you might consider something to cover that phone receiver. A University of Arizona microbiology team tested a dozen office surfaces including the bathroom. The scientists found that phone receivers had 25,000 bacteria per square inch, while toilet seats had only 49 bacteria per square inch. Talk about calling in sick!
So you see, Toilet seats actually are safer and healthier than phones, doorknobs, or faucets. They actually PREVENT germ growth! So take my advice: Replace your phone, faucets, and doorknobs with toilet seats! It's the only logical solution. ( I do not, however, think toilet seats should be used for protection against STD's, That's just plain weird!)

Small woodworkers UNITE!

I just read a small post on one of the blogs that I follow about the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) passing a law that would require ALL makers of toys to pass third person safety testing. Even us little guys who scroll saw or carve toys that MAY be for children. Anyway, My default position on most things is to keep government out of it. Let us run out small business and be concerned with the quality and safety. It was the Chinese toy manufacturers that messed this all up for the rest of us. Even though I don't make toys at the moment, and even though I might not have an army of followers on this blog. I feel that all small entrepreneurs that make and sell things on line have an interest in keeping certain bureaucrats out of our business. Let the market dictate what people can sell. Most people probably have a tough enough time just trying to keep their small shop in the black. Fines, and fees that affirm something already known to all just adds weight to the price. Anyway. Read more here.....and learn what you can do to help! Thanks.
