Driving in the Minnesota Snow.

Snow on the Subaru
Some Autumn Color.
Yesterday was an adventure!   The snow was nice enough to hold off during the Marathon, but eventually DID come.   It began falling just about an hour south of Bemidji.  We thought it would be a light dusting and lessen as we moved south...but we were mistaken.

Snow is piling up.
Being covered with snow.
The autumn colors were frosted with snow.  I managed to catch a littlehint of it at a rest stop along the way.   We were "enchanted" by the flakes in the air and Cheryl's hair.

Covering the lawn of the rest area.
Landing in Cheryl's hair.
But then things picked up a bit.  I thought once we crossed the Iowa border, we would drive out of it.  Once again, I was wrong!

Falling, but not collecting on the road.
The fields have turned white!

Visibility was slightly limited.  And luckily, the temp kept steady at 32 degrees the entire way through the storm front.  There was no accumulation of snow on the road and the new tires gripped the wet pavement firmly.
Trees are frosted!

Roads are wet, but not icy.

Eventually,  the snow became rain as we neared Waterloo.   From there,  the trip was pretty routine.

Visibility is limited only slightly.

Have to put it on the bumper now.
Cheryl prepares he Sticker.
Feeling exhausted last night, we saved the Subie Marathon Marking for this morning.  We are beginning to run out of placed to put stickers on the Silver Bullet!   If Cheryl continues to rack up these Marathons, we may have to start a new row.

Showing off the shirt and Sicker.
Another Marathon Notch in Subie
Today was a "Catch up" day for stockings and a "rest and recovery" day for Marathon runners.  So what better way to spend the day resting than to hunt for Mushrooms!
Hunting with Horns.

Yellow Corts?  Very bright.
The falling leaves and cooler temps seem to have hidden or stunted the Mushrooms for the moment.  We did manage to find a few Blewits and possible yellow Corts, but the forest area was pretty bare.  Perhaps they will appear a little later, after it warms up a bit.

Not edible, but cool to look at.
Red Elf cap mushrooms on a log?
Which looks unlikely.   After this week, it is possible that the temps might continue to hover in the low 40's  I feel like Fall was skipped this year.   Where were the cool 65-55 degree temps?   With a warm sun and light breeze?   Instead it went from 80 degrees to 40 overnight!

No hummingbirds today... Which is a good thing.  The Hummingbird feeder was empty when we returned home, when it was about 1/4 full before we left.  I'm hoping that last one got the memo and headed south.  On the way back to Iowa, we saw several sightings of Eagles heading to Iowa. Funny to think they migrate to our state for the Winter.

That is all from Iowa for now.   Thanks for stopping in.
