The Last Hummingbird Of The Season.

The Last Hummingbird.
Cold weather Triggers
The Cardinal Creeper
Yesterday, I saw a very sad and lonely sight.   One lonely hummingbird came to our feeder.   It sat there in a droopy position and drank as much and I think it could.   The reason why this is so strange is because the temps dropped 40 degrees and never got higher than 45 degrees all day!  A sudden drop from mid 80's to low 40's was felt by even us humans.

There is no shortage of Food for him
He has it all to himself....
I went outside to check up on him and the cold air hit me like a splash of cold water.   He responded by slowly flying away without the usual vigor.   I hope I did not accidentally keep him away from topping off before his big migration south.

It appears that most of the hummers are now gone. I was shocked to see this guy.   I'm hoping he gets the urge to fly south soon, because the temps are going to continue to drop for the rest of next week and probably are not going to come back to those Indian summer levels.  (Even the Bee's and Hornets have been absent from the feeders!)  Worst case is he never makes it... and that would be sad.

But cold temps are not keeping Cheryl from being fired up.   We are in Bemidji, MN.  Preparing for the Blue Ox Marathon!   It was a bit of a trek to get up here, but we have arrived and are waiting for the start gun tomorrow.
Expo and Hockey Game!

It is a small race, with a half and 5K attached.  The cool thing is that the start AND finish line are both here outside the Hotel!   We simply have to roll out of bed and get to the start line.   Awesome!

Car Fatigue.

Studying the Map.

The expo was small, but cool.   There is a Hockey game tonight and the parking is filled with fans...  (tough finding parking even for the hotel!) Because, only in Minnesota do the city planners combine a hockey game with a Marathon.

Cheryl is the Babe....

Cheryl says, "Ooff-ta!"

By they way, there is snow up here.   Yep!   Snow.     They were predicting even colder temps, but looks like the weather man has changed his forecast.  Good news for Cheryl, who was afraid she was going to have to run in pants and long sleeves tomorrow.   If the temps continue in the 40's,  she should have "Runner's Favorite Weather" to help he along.
Still around after 40 degree temps!

Snow!
I'll keep this short, since it took almost 9 hours to get here.   I'm beat.   We are booked here for two nights, so I will be able to blog tomorrow after the festivities and dust/snow have settled.   See ya then!
