I finally finished my shift scoring papers and finally have a little time to blog. However, nothing much happened today. Similar to yesterday, it rained and Cheryl ran out in it. The only thing different was that I did not get my Big Mac from McDonalds! (I know! How can life be so Cruel?!)
So, today I thought about combining two of my very, very, very most favoritest subjects of ALL TIME!( I have simply been reading too many 4th grade papers.) Male Barbershop Chorus singing the Armed Forces Medley. Both have nothing to do with either running Nor Big Macs. Enjoy! Especially 1:56 on the counter. GO ARMY!
Realtime ! That is their name... I love these guys! This is one of my favorite sets. Even though it is done in a rather bad sounding area. Enjoy the snappy barbershop!
Tonight was spent sharpening my chisels, including the new ones I just got for Christmas. As previously posted, I just LOVE sharpening.....( sarcasm hint here) I have been putting it off since the tree carving was complete, and several of my favorite chisels had some serious damage that had to be reground and resharpened. After finally finishing that, I came to the conclusion that I need to make a better storage area for them if I want to keep them sharp and stop having them roll around in a cloth carry case. So tomorrow, I plan on starting my next project to make a wall case that will hold all my chisels safely and out of harms way. I can't wait to get started... Oh and to top it off. Westminster with the Way you Look Tonight. Enjoy!
Getting ready for the holidays? They are almost upon us! Our little salute to the season is to make something totally sugary and fattening then give it away to friends and family! It's our way to thanking them for fattening us up for Thanksgiving. Anyway, this year we decided to make butter toffee. Its pretty easy actually, just melt butter, add brown sugar, boil, then add goodies. However, our first experiment ended in disaster 50 % of the time!Looking back, I think we relied on the candy thermometer too much instead of just our"experience" This time was way better. No burned sugar, no bad smell no ruined candies. We might be getting the hang of it! Might as well throw in a barbershop song for the holidays! Enjoy WestMinster Chorus! Great Day!
Today we went to woodcraft in GrandRapids for my Christmas present. I know it is not much of a surprise if you know the gift ahead of time. Then again we are old enough to just find something we want and buy it instead of having our loved one guess what it is we truly want. So I really needed a new #5 chisel to replace the old one I have been using ( it's one of my favorite chisels in my arsenal) As mentioned in a previous post, it must be made of a metal that does not like rough handling, because it keeps chipping. Pretty soon I won't have any of the chisel left to grind down and resharpen! IN addition to that, I got a 25mm V-tool. I have several smaller ones, but none of them help me much with larger carvings. I decided to go as big as I could and See where it takes me. I will probably start on a new project tomorrow. I can't wait! Oh and I have not posted any barbershop tunes lately! i found several new ones on YouTube. Enjoy!
Worked on the tree carving again. Mostly on shaping the head and eyes. It was a lovely sunset this evening. So I just had to try to capture it. It has been getting cold in the evenings lately. Nice for the inland, but kinda chilly at the shoreline.
Carved up three more seats tonight. The last batch took too long to dry so they( hopefully) will all go out tomorrow. I finally found an old barbershop group that for a while, was lost on youtube. I don't even know if they are still together. Enjoy Rounders.
Carved up 4 seats tonight. Took longer than I had anticipated, which means A longer night for me to watch the poly dry. No biggy! I have plenty of Anime to watch. ( Funimaton has lots of shows!) As some of you may know, I'm a big barbershop quartet fan. I recently found out that my neighbor is in a group called the fountain street four. They have invited me to listen in on a rehearsal next Wednesday ( If I'm awake that is. They are still new and kinda green, but then again, practice makes perfect. Here's One I like. and although at the last competition, they lost points for being too "choral" I think they have potential.
I took a big bite of work tonight and carved up 10...that's right, 10 seats! By the time I got finished sanding and staining them, It was almost 1:00 am. Cheryl helped paint a bit and we decided to quite around 4 am. So I'm very happy with our progress and quite exhausted. We will finish them up tomorrow and hopefully the boxes will come. I'm hoping sales continue for the rest of the week at this pace seeing as we have bills to pay. Be were able to pay a big one with this small bonanza! YEAH! Well, I'm rather tired so I'll just make this post short. Here is one of my favorite Barbershop groups. Vocal Spectrum. They were the 2006 national champs I believe. My favorite set is the one with "the street where you live". Listen to the tenor...
I carved up 6 seats tonight, But it was too late to paint them. It just makes my Sunday that much easier. Besides, we only have 4 boxes left and even though Cheryl ordered more tonight, they will not arrive until Tuesday. Regardless, I'm happy they are carved up. And our supplier has a nice stock of seats! ( well, it was kinda a slow week for us, that may be the reason there are so many left over) My shop layout seems to be working well! The fans control the dust and circulate the air nicely. My latest origami creation is a wasp! I really like the way it turned out. The base is the same as the Pegasus from a previous post. ( don't know the name of it off hand) My shop cat took some time out from my shop and decided to hang out in Cheryl's. He was with me for an hour, while I drew on the designs. But when the tools began to roar, he heads for quieter sleeping grounds. Cheryl's fabric basket! And since it is kinda a small post tonight. Here is Nightlife! the 1996 Quartet Champions. Listen to the Bass, You will know why...
